The making of YDP3

YDP3 was established on the 17th of July 2009 by the youth of Mthatha
District who are former Peer Educators and founders of the Mthatha Peer Education Council and as well as some of the stakeholders who have served as the support structure of the Peer Education Program in Mthatha. This program has been introduced to schools of Mthatha district by the provincial office of the Department of Education, through the DoE district office. YDP3 has come to existence from the realisation that, though successful the peer education program was, there still remains much to be done and that the constant dependence of the peer education program on the DoE acts as a limit to what the program could accomplish if it were to stand alone; especially with regards to reaching young people who are out of the high schooling system.

The leaders of YDP3 have extensive hands on expertise and experience in the areas covered by the organization. This diverse range of skills as well as multisectoral approach taken by the organisation in combating HIV/AIDS and issues relating to it (such as Drugs, alcohol and Substance abuse, abstinence, orphans and vulnerable children and many others) ensure a completely holistic approach to the fight against problems encountered by our immediate community of the king Sabata Dalindyebo Region and its surroundings arrears, the Eastern Cape community and the larger South African society.
